Hello,

My band is planning to release a 3-song demo cd in January of 2010. I have read a lot of articles and advice for effectively promoting and marketing the cd but still one question remains, atleast for now. Any and all comments regarding this post would be appreciated.

January I am planning to send several hundred copies of my band's new demo to radio stations, record labels and publication companies. Everything I've read suggests that actually getting these people to attentively listen to my music is a far-shot, but I am willing to take the risk. I hope to overcome the massive amount of material that these companies regularly receive by developing my product into a distinctive one and by building personal relationships with the decision makers of these companies.

I would like to present my package to these places as professionally as possible. When I send my package to a radio station, I plan to include the cd, a sticker with my band's url and a business card. Some might say that I should include a bio or pics but I am trying to keep it simple.

So here's my question:

When the radio station receives my cd, how will they know which song to play? I realize that I could tell them in the e-mails and conversations that I have with them prior to sending the material, but that avenue seems to create ambiguity and confusion. For instance, track 3 on the demo cd will be the first single and the one we want the stations to play. We also would hope that in the future after that song gets enough plays that the pd's will spin track 2 (specifically) off the cd. Do you get where I am going with this? Do you think it would be a better idea to send a cd with only one track so that by virtue of elimination they will play the right track 100% of the time?
How do I specify the first single off the cd? and so on...

Looking forward to hearing some opinions about this. Thanks for your wisdom in advance. Bo
